New Year’s Message from Consul General Hatori
2022/1/4

Happy New Year!
Last year, thanks to the rollout of the vaccines, we witnessed a drop in COVID-19 case numbers and the gradual loosening of various restrictions. I thought that we had finally seen the light at the end of the tunnel, but shortly thereafter, the infection rate began to seesaw. As we approached the end of the year, the outbreak of the new Omicron variant required us to once again adopt an attitude of increased caution in our everyday lives as another year took its toll.
As was the case a full year ago, 2022 saw us welcome the New Year amidst an ongoing global pandemic once again. Yet, despite the many restrictions put in place over the past year, Canadians and Japanese alike have tried their best to make the most of all resources – including those online – to keep person-to-person exchanges and economic activities alive and well. Now, the fruits of their labor are beginning to appear. I hope that the pandemic will be subdued, that we will be able to hold events with peace of mind, and that the various exchanges between Canada and Japan will again become as lively as they once were.
Our consulate will continue to provide safety information relating to COVID-19 and other major concerns as needed. We will do our best to make our office as convenient as possible, offering more comprehensive consular services so that all of you may go about your daily lives safely and comfortably.
From the bottom of my heart, I hope that 2022 will be a healthy and wonderful year for us all!
