Congratulations to Luna Kurokawa (3rd year, Junior High) of Gladstone Japanese Language School, designer of the 130th Anniversary Logo most favoured by our voters!
In 2019, the Consulate General of Japan in Vancouver celebrates the 130th anniversary of its establishment as Japan’s first foreign mission to Canada in 1889. Our consulate’s history parallels that of Japanese-Canadian immigrants who arrived to BC some ten years prior. This anniversary is an opportunity for us to look back on and appreciate our shared history, and to foster greater friendship between Japan and Canada.
To visually mark the 130th anniversary, we started a competition in December for elementary and secondary students to design an anniversary logo. All entries were short-listed to four, and visitors to our homepage voted on their favourites. The logo that received the most votes will be used as our 130th anniversary logo. We thank all who participated, especially those students and schools who submitted designs.
Call for designs:
From December 10, 2018 to the end of January 2019 we called for submissions of logo designs on our homepage and SNS. With the purpose of allowing the younger generation to rediscover Japan and Canada’s long history, we reached out to elementary and secondary schools in BC and the Yukon.
We selected the top four candidate logos from the designs we received and held an online vote open to the public. Between February 10 and 20, we received a total of 1600 votes and the logo with the most votes was chosen to be the official 130th anniversary logo.
Final 4 Candidate Logos
The logo will be used on our promotional materials, including our website, social media, and at events held throughout the year.
