| The character 多, which means "many" or "various," is made up of two overlapping parts. The peoples and cultures of the world may seem very different, but in the end, they may all be the same. Walking around Vancouver, a city of diversity, you will pass by people from all over the world. |  |
楓 (KAEDE - Maple) December 5
| A maple leaf is depicted on the Canadian flag. In Japanese, "maple leaf" is written as 楓. This character, made up of 木 ("tree") and 風 ("wind"), symbolizes the wind carrying the leaves and seeds of a tree far away. As I stepped on the fallen maple leaves, I was reminded of this story of the tree and the wind. |  |
