Orientation and Training

What kind of training do you offer before departure and where can I sign up?
Orientations

In June, a full-day Pre-Departure Seminar is held covering topics relating to pre-departure preparation and life in Japan as a JET. It is a good opportunity not only to gain information, but also to meet fellow participants and speak with JET Alumni about their experiences. The tentative date for this seminar is June 27.

A "Teaching English in Japan" Seminar will be tentatively held on June 28. This seminar is aimed at candidates with limited teaching experience or those who simply want to find out more about teaching in Japan.

On August 1, the Consulate will hold a mandatory half-day orientation for all participants. We will cover last-minute issues, as well as hand out travel documents and return passports. The orientation will be followed by a farewell reception.

Details for all pre-departure events will be available in the future.

Language Training
JET Participants receive a Japanese language text and CD. ALTs receive Japanese for JETs - Beginning Text, while CIRs receive Japanese for CIRs.

Beginner Japanese lessons will be arranged in Vancouver and Victoria to start in June. Details will be sent to JET participants once arrangements are confirmed.

Once in Japan, CLAIR offers correspondence courses for all Japanese language levels. Further details are outlined in the JET Programme General Information Handbook.
