About the film: A father-daughter story revolving around Tsugaru-nuri, a traditional Aomori lacquerware craft that fascinates the world. Directed by Tsuruoka Keiko, whose first feature film The Town of Whales was highly acclaimed overseas.
Miyako (Hotta Mayu) lives with her father Aoki Seishiro (Kobayashi Kaoru), a Tsugaru lacquer craftsman. After graduating from high school, she worked aimlessly at a local supermarket and helped out in the family business. Her mother left home because she was fed up with her work-first husband, and her brother, who defied the expectations of those around him to live freely as a hairdresser. The Aoki family is now a family divided.
