On July 14, a series of commemorative events was held to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the friendship city relationship between the City of Saitama and the City of Nanaimo.

Marking this milestone, an official delegation from Saitama City led by Mayor SHIMIZU Hayato and Council Vice Chair SOENO Fumiko visited Nanaimo to attend the events to celebrate this special occasion with both cities. Deputy Consul General SUGIO Toru accompanied the delegation.

At the Sister City 30th Anniversary Commemorative Declaration Signing Ceremony, Mayor Shimizu and Mayor Leonard Krog of Nanaimo signed a friendship declaration commemorating 30 years of partnership and participated in a tree-planting ceremony, reaffirming the strong friendship between the two cities.

At the official dinner hosted by the City of Nanaimo, appreciation was expressed for the contributions of the two municipalities, educational institutions including Vancouver Island University, and community organizations such as the Central Vancouver Island Japanese Canadian Society (Seven Potatoes) in fostering 30 years of exchange. Both cities expressed their commitment to further strengthening their friendship and expanding future exchanges.
