The 49th Powell Street Festival was held at Oppenheimer Park and surrounding facilities in Powell Street, known as the former Japanese town. At the opening ceremony, Consul General Takahashi delivered a speech praising the Powell Street Festival for its long-standing efforts to preserve Japanese Canadian culture and Japanese traditions. This street festival is Canada's largest Japanese Canadian festival, featuring a variety of live performances, traditional martial arts demonstrations, and many Japanese food stalls, attracting large crowds.
The Consulate General of Japan in Vancouver also had a booth providing information on the JET Program, Study in Japan Scholarship programs, and tourism in Japan. As a new initiative this year, a Japanese film was screened at the Firehall Arts Centre, which drew a large audience.
