The 46th Annual Powell Street Festival 2022
2022/8/4

Vancouver’s annual celebration of Japanese-Canadian culture, the Powell Street Festival, was back in full form for the first time in two years over BC Day long weekend, (July 30 and 31) at Oppenheimer Park and its surrounding areas known as Vancouver’s historical Japanese neighbourhood.
At the opening ceremony, Consul General Hatori applauded the organizers for continuously preserving Japanese and Japanese Canadian culture even through the pandemic.
Amongst various kiosks, food tents, activities, performances, and exhibits, a featured visual and sound digital art group, Kuusou, which merges state-of-the-art digital graphics with traditionally inspired Japanese calligraphy, came all the way from Japan to put on an installation in tandem with the festival.
Festivalgoers stopped by our Consulate’s information booth set up inside Vancouver Buddhist Temple for free tourism pamphlets, flyers, and magazines about Japan as well as info sheets on the Japan Exchange & Teaching Programme (JET) and Study in Japan scholarships and opportunities.
