Ceremony Confers Commendation from Foreign Minister of Japan on Ms. Lorene Oikawa

On March 14, 2024, a ceremony to present the Foreign Minister of Japan’s Commendation on Ms. Lorene Gayle Oikawa, Past President, National Association of Japanese Canadians, was held.
Ms. Oikawa has served as the President of the National Association of Japanese Canadians and the President of the Greater Vancouver Japanese Canadian Citizens' Association, and made significant contributions to the development of the Japanese Canadian and Japanese communities in Canada and to the promotion of friendship between Japan and Canada. She has also led a number of movements and projects to restore the honour of Japanese Canadians who experienced the internment and dispossession during World War II, and contributed significantly to improving the social status of Japanese Canadians in Canada. Ms. Oikawa received this award in recognition of these achievements.
