On August 16, Deputy Consul General Sugio, on behalf of the Consul General, visited Mayne Island, located off the coast of Vancouver Island, to attend the completion ceremony for a project including the restoration of a Japanese garden and the installation of an exhibition panel on history of Japanese Canadian immigrants to the island at the island's museum—initiatives supported by the Japanese Canadian Legacy Society (JCLS). In his congratulatory remarks, DCG Sugio commended the efforts of the implementing organizations—the Mayne Agricultural Society and the JCLS—in bringing the project to fruition and expressed his wishes for the continued prosperity of the Japanese Canadian community in Canada.
