On November 3, the first Japanese cultural event in Nanaimo in five years, a taiko drumming performance and Japanese film screening was held at Vancouver Island University (VIU). About 300 people attended the event, which included a performance by the taiko ensemble "Uminari Taiko", a performance workshop, and a screening of the movie "Dad’s Lunch Box". This event was co-sponsored by the Consulate General of Japan in Vancouver, VIU, the The Central Vancouver Island Japanese Canadian Society, and the Japan Foundation.
