Third Annual Metro Vancouver Japan Bowl (02/23/20)
2020/3/23

On Sunday, February 23, the third annual Metro Vancouver Japan Bowl was held recently at Nikkei National Museum & Cultural Centre in Burnaby, BC.
Consul General Hatori thanked the event’s organizing committee – JETAABC – as well as the other participating organizations, schools and sponsors before encouraging the student challengers.
Japan Bowl is a trivia competition aimed at high school students studying Japanese. It tests not only their knowledge of the language, but quizzes them on a range of questions drawn from Japanese history, politics, culture, arts, customs, pop-culture and more. Sixty-nine students on twenty-three teams from ten schools participated this year, making it the most widely represented Japan Bowl to date.
Two teams from Port Moody Secondary, “Tsuribito” and “Nori Nori Nori” placed first and second overall respectively. "Suteki na Steak" from Killarney Secondary School took third place. “Shingeki no JK” from Burnett Secondary took home the Team Spirit Award.
In addition to the quiz, the venue was enlivened by a taiko drum performance, a bon-odori workshop and a voice acting presentation by Yurie Hoyoyon.
