The Consulate General of Japan and The Japan Foundation are pleased to present a series of three recent films from Japan promoting greater understanding of Japanese culture. All films are in Japanese with English subtitles; Admission is Free, -seating is limited on a first-come basis.
Born, Bone, Born (Senkotsu, 洗骨)
On the fourth anniversary of the matriarch’s passing, the Shinjo family gathers to carry out the local ritual bone-washing ceremony and a final farewell. Unresolved issues emerge in a story with a finely tuned balance of humour, sadness and humanity portraying how they deal with grief and loss.

Morikazu, a 94-year old artist has hardly left his property for 30 years. Tirelessly he observes his garden and paints while his wife tends to endless visitors. Then developers decide to build a condo jeopardizing their paradise. The film humorously depicts a summer day in their life during the more affable social atmosphere of the 1970s.
