Consul General's Visit to Yukon 2024.03.27-2024.03.28

On March 27 and 28, the Consul General and his wife visited Yukon. The Consul General met with Commissioner Adeline Webber, Premier Ranj Pillai, Minister John Streicker and others to exchange views on further strengthening the relationship between Japan and Yukon by building on the results of the Premier's trip to Japan last year. They went to the Yukon Legislative Assembly and spoke with members of the Japanese Canadian Association of Yukon (JCAY) to learn about the community's activities. The Consul General and his wife also had the opportunity to greet members of the Japanese Para-Snowboarding Team who were in Yukon.

Consul General Maruyama meets with the MEXT Scholarship Alumni Association of BC 2024.03.19

On March 19, Consul General Maruyama met with the MEXT Scholarship Alumni Association of British Columbia and Yukon to send off a new scholarship recipient to Japan and exchange various ideas with the alumni about how to promote youth exchanges between Japan and Canada.


Consul General attends Graduation Ceremony at Vancouver Japanese School 2024.03.17

On March 17, Consul General Maruyama attended the Graduation Ceremony of the Vancouver Japanese School and made a congratulatory address to a total of 41 graduating students.


Consul General received donation for Noto Peninsula Earthquake Relief 2024.03.14

On March 14th, Consul General Maruyama received a donation for Noto Peninsula Earthquake Relief from Ms. Matsushita, President, and Ms. Tsuda, former President of Japanese Women's Business Association.


Consul General attends ZIPAIR Tokyo’s inaugural flight ceremony between Tokyo and Vancouver 2024.03.13

On March 13th, Consul General Maruyama was invited to congratulate ZIPAIR Tokyo on its inaugural flight between Tokyo and Vancouver.


Consul General received donation for Noto Peninsula Earthquake Relief 2024.03.11

On March 11th, Consul General Maruyama received a donation for Noto Peninsula Earthquake Relief from Ms. Honma, President and Ms. Tanemura, Chief of Administration of Urasenke Tankokai Vancouver Branch and heard about the Charity Tea Ceremony that was held on February 11th.


Consul General Maruyama attends the 7th Annual Metro Vancouver Japan Bowl 2024.03.09

On March 9, the Consul General attended the 7th Annual Metro Vancouver Japan Bowl which tests high school students’ extensive knowledge of Japanese language and Japanese culture. During the event, hosted by the JET Programme Alumni Association of British Columbia and Yukon (JETAABC), the Consul General remarked that the students’ strong interest in Japan is a great strength that will support the future of Japan-Canada relations.

 

2024 Emperor's Birthday Celebration Reception 2024.03.08

On March 8, the Consulate General hosted a birthday celebration for His Majesty the Emperor. The Consul General gave the ceremonial address and Hon. Bruce Ralston, B.C.’s Minister of Forests , offered his congratulations. The reception was attended by Members of the Senate and the House of Commons, the Speaker of the B.C. Legislative Assembly, Ministers, Members of the Legislative Assembly, mayors and city councillors from B.C. and a representative of Yukon, Consular Corps, and representatives from Japanese and Japanese-Canadian communities.


Consul General Visits Victoria 2024.03.04

On March 4, the Consul General was invited by the BC government to attend a luncheon hosted by the Lieutenant Governor and a briefing by the provincial government for the Consular Corps at the Lieutenant Governor's residence in Victoria and the Parliament Buildings respectively.



Consul General calls on the Hon. Mike Farnworth, Minister of Public Safety, B.C. 2024.03.04

On March 4th, Consul General paid a courtesy call on the Hon. Mike Farnworth, Minister of Public Safety, BC, in Victoria and exchanged views on BC’s initiatives on public safety issues as well as the relationship between Japan and BC.
 


Consul General Maruyama attends 36th Annual BC Japanese Speech Contest 2024.03.02 

On March 2, the 36th Annual BC Japanese Speech Contest was held. The Consul General, who was in attendance, congratulated the participants at the awards ceremony, commended their efforts, and wished them well in their competition. 43 participants (24 high school students and 19 university students) gave impassioned speeches on a variety of topics ranging from their experiences in Japan to Japanese culture and social issues.



 Consul General attends 51st Steveston International Karate Championship 2024.03.02

On March 2, Consul General Maruyama attended the 51st Steveston International Karate Championship and delivered opening remarks. He met with Richmond City Mayor Malcolm Brodie, MLA Ms. Kelly Greene, former President of Judo Canada Mr. Jim Kojima, as well as tournament founder, Mr. Uchiage and others.

Consul General attends seminar for international tourism to Japan 2024.03.01

On March 1st, Consul General Maruyama was invited to a seminar organized by the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) to promote international tourism to Japan. The Consul General gave remarks, and local government officials and other related representatives introduced the attractions of various cities and regions in Japan.



Consul General calls on President of University of British Columbia 2024.03.01

On March 1, Consul General paid a courtesy call on Dr. Benoit-Antoine Bacon, President of the University of British Columbia (UBC), and exchanged views on furthering partnerships between Japan and UBC.



Consul General received donation for Noto Peninsula Earthquake Relief 2024.03.01

On March 1st, Consul General Maruyama received a donation for Noto Peninsula Earthquake Relief from Mr. Hirai and Mr. Watanabe of BC-Japan Friendship Group and heard about the Charity Event “Noto Night” that was held at Nikkei Centre on February 17th.
