Consul General attends Graduation Ceremony at Vancouver Japanese School 2023.03.19

On March 19, Consul General Maruyama attended the 50th Graduation Certificate Ceremony of the Vancouver Japanese School and made a congratulatory address to a total of 45 graduating students.

 

Consul General Maruyama attends 6th Annual Metro Vancouver Japan Bowl 2023.03.11

On March 11, almost 80 high school students took part in the 6th Annual Metro Vancouver Japan Bowl to test their extensive knowledge of Japanese language and Japanese culture. During the event, hosted by the JET Programme Alumni Association of British Columbia and Yukon (JETAABC), students were quizzed on topics ranging from Japanese history to pop culture. In his remarks at the closing ceremony, Consul General Maruyama called for learning together and deepening mutual understanding.



Ceremony Confers Commendation from Foreign Minister of Japan on Mr. Henry Wakabayashi 2023.03.10

On March 10, 2023, a ceremony to present the Foreign Minister of Japan’s Commendation on Mr. Henry Hiroshi Wakabayashi, Founder of Pacific Liaicon and Associates Ltd., was held at the official residence of the Consul General of Japan, Mr. Maruyama Kohei. The Foreign Minister’s Commendations are awarded to individuals and groups with outstanding achievements in international fields in order to acknowledge their contributions to the promotion of friendship between Japan and other countries and areas. The Commendations also aim to promote greater understanding and support from the Japanese public for the activities of the recipients. As Vice-Chairman of the Vancouver Redress Committee Mr. Wakabayashi led the redress movement to restore the honour of Japanese Canadians, and made a significant contribution to improving their social status. In addition, as an engineer, he volunteered for the construction of the Nikkei National Museum and Cultural Centre, the Momiji Garden, and the renovation of the Tonari Gumi facility, and devoted his expertise to major infrastructure developments in British Columbia, such as the SkyTrain. Through these efforts, he has made great contributions to the promotion of Japan-Canada relations. Mr. Wakabayashi received this award in recognition of these achievements.

 

 

Consul General attended seminar for inbound international tourism to Japan 2023.03.06

On March 6th, Consul General Maruyama attended a seminar organized by Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) to promote inbound international tourism to Japan. The consul general gave the opening remarks, and various tourism experiences in Japan were introduced by the participants.

 

 

Consul General Maruyama attends 35th Annual BC Japanese Speech Contest 2023.03.04 

On March 4, the 35th Annual BC Japanese Speech Contest was held and Consul General Maruyama made remarks at the awards ceremony and wished the contestants further success in their Japanese language studies. 41 (19 high school and 22 university students) participated and enthusiastically gave their speeches on a variety of topics ranging from Japanese culture to social issues.


 

Consul General Maruyama holds reception for MEXT Scholarship Alumni Association of British Columbia and Yukon 2023.03.03

On March 3, Consul General Maruyama held a reception for the MEXT Scholarship Alumni Association of British Columbia and Yukon. He exchanged various ideas with the alumni about how to promote youth exchanges between Japan and Canada.
