Consul General received donation for Noto Peninsula Earthquake Relief 2024.01.31

On January 31st, Consul General Maruyama received a donation for Noto Peninsula Earthquake Relief from representatives of Okeya Kyujiro, LA International Trading, and Sake Gami Corporation, and heard about the charity event that they have organized for it.

On January 30th, Consul General Maruyama met with Mr. Bert van der Stege, CEO, Harbour Air Seaplanes, and exchanged views on strengthening the economic relationship with Japan.



Consul General attends the signing ceremony between companies from Japan and Canada 2024.01.22

On January 22nd, Consul General Maruyama was invited to the signing ceremony between Sumitomo Metal Mining and FPX Nickel Corp. and gave congratulatory remarks with Mr. Mihlar, Deputy Minister, Ministry of Jobs, Economic Development and Innovation, BC.



Consul General Maruyama attends the Nikkei Community New Year's Celebration 2024.01.13

On January 13, the Nikkei Community New Year's Celebration was held at the Nikkei National Museum & Cultural Centre and Museum, with approximately 250 people in attendance. In his remarks, the Consul General expressed his condolences and sympathy for those affected by the Noto Peninsula earthquake and other related disasters and called on the participants to work together for a good year ahead. He also had conversations with members of the Nikkei community.


Consul General Maruyama attends "Ohfukai" New Year's Party 2024.1.11

On January 11, Consul General Maruyama attended a New Year's party hosted by "Ohfukai," a local Japanese group, where he engaged in conversation with attending group members.



Consul General attends the proclamation of “Vancouver Asahi Day” organized by the City of Vancouver 2024.01.11

On January 11, Mr. Kaye Kaminishi, the only surviving member of the Vancouver Asahi Baseball Club, was honoured with a "Vancouver Asahi Day" proclamation ceremony at City Hall on the occasion of his 102nd birthday, hosted by Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim. The Consul General, who was invited to the ceremony, gave a congratulatory speech as a guest of honour, praising Mr. Kaminishi and wishing for his continued good health. He also thanked Mayor Sim and the city councillors who attended the ceremony.



Consul General Maruyama calls on North Vancouver Mayor Linda Buchanan 2024.01.11

On January 11, Consul General Maruyama paid a courtesy call on Mayor of the City of North Vancouver Linda Buchanan, and exchanged views on strengthening the friendly relationship between Japan and North Vancouver. (The City of North Vancouver is a sister city of Chiba City, Japan.)

 

Consul General attends New Year’s ‘Kakizome’ calligraphy event at Nikkei National Museum & Cultural Centre 2024.01.06

On January 6, the Consul General was invited to the New Year's ‘Kakizome’ calligraphy event at Nikkei Centre, where he gave a calligraphy demonstration. As the event commenced, he took a moment to express his heartfelt condolences to those who suffered from the Noto Peninsula earthquake and other recent tragedies, and prayed for a swift rescue and successful recovery efforts in the region. While writing on an expansive piece of ‘gasenshi’ paper, he explained the variations in calligraphic styles and engaged in a discussion with the audience.
