On September 15th, Consul General Takahashi and his wife visited Okinoerabu Island in the Amami Islands and paid their respects at the monument commemorating the Canadian sailing vessel "Lizzie C. Troop," which was shipwrecked off the island 135 years ago in 1890 (crew of 22, 12 of whom were rescued by islanders). They also met with local officials involved in a commemorative event held 25 years ago for the 110th anniversary, which was also attended by the Canadian Ambassador to Japan at the time.
