2026/5/5
On May 1, the tall ship Kaiwo Maru, “King of the Sea,” called at Richmond, Steveston—its first Pacific crossing and visit to Canada in nine years.
During the port call, Consul General Takahashi attended the captain’s onboard reception and met with Captain Kaizuka, senior officers, crew members, and trainees. The Consul General also delivered remarks at the welcome ceremony of the “Ships to Shore” festival organized by the City of Richmond to celebrate the ship’s visit.
Steveston has been bustling with visitors eager to catch a glimpse of the Kaiwo Maru. The ship is scheduled to depart on the evening of the 6th. If you haven’t seen the Kaiwo Maru yet, make sure to stop by Garry Point Park and see the Kaiwo Maru while she’s here!
