Opening ceremony of Japanese Canadian Monument
Speech by Consul General Takahashi
On October 3, Consul General Takahashi attended the opening ceremony of the newly established Japanese Canadian Monument near the British Columbia Legislature and delivered remarks.

The monument commemorates Japanese Canadians who were forcibly uprooted, dispossessed of their property, and interned during the Second World War. Developed through a partnership between the Japanese Canadian Legacies Society (JCLS) and the Government of British Columbia, the monument features a 90-metre-long “Wall of Names,” inscribed with the names of approximately 22,000 Japanese Canadians who were forcibly removed from the coast of British Columbia beginning in 1942.
