On March 28, Consul General Takahashi attended the Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival’s Big Picnic, held at David Lam Park in Yaletown. At the opening ceremony, he delivered remarks alongside festival organizers and community partners, then took part in a traditional kagami biraki (sake barrel-breaking ceremony) to celebrate the festival’s 20th anniversary.

Following the ceremony, the Consul General participated in a tree-planting dedication for a new cherry tree in the park.

With the cherry blossoms in full bloom, many visitors enjoyed Hanami, the festival’s activities and attractions throughout the park. These included a cultural information table and origami activation hosted by the Consulate General of Japan, various Japanese and multicultural food vendors, community partner booths, haiku exhibits, hands-on craft experiences, stage performances, and picnics under the blossoms.
