2017/5/12
The Kaiwo-Maru, a Japanese training vessel for merchant marine cadets called at Richmond from May 3rd to 8th at the invitation of the City of Richmond to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Canada’s confederation. Consul General Okai attended the reception on board the Kaiwo-Maru hosted by Captain Umatani and the dinner reception hosted by Mayor Brodie of Richmond. The Sail Drill, the major attraction at the “Ships to Shore - King of the Sea” festival which was held at Gary Point Park during the weekend, delighted a large crowd. It was absolutely spectacular to see the Kaiwo-Maru, one of the world’s largest tall ships, under the blue sky with full sails on the four masts.
