Welcoming Reception for Japanese Students of the “2017 Kakehashi Project” (Two-way Youth Exchange Program)
2017/4/8
As part of the two-way youth exchange program, the “2017 Kakehashi Project,” 18 students from Gifu Prefectural Nakatsu High School visited the Greater Vancouver District from March 22 to 29. During their stay, they paid a courtesy call on Minister of Advanced Education, Hon. Andrew Wilkinson and toured such places as the UBC Museum of Anthropology, Nikkei Place, the BC Provincial Court, and the Gulf of Georgia Cannery in Steveston. The students also had an exchange and home-stay with students from Gleneagle and Centennial High School who visited Japan in February on the same program.
On March 28, a welcome reception was held at Consul General Okai’s residence for the Japanese students. The visiting students gave presentations on their Canadian experience in English to an audience which included: Minister of Advanced Education Andrew Wilkinson, Mayor of Coquitlam Mr. Richard Stewart, and School District No. 43 (Coquitlam) Board of Education Chair Kerri Palmer Isaak.
