8th Japan-Canada Academic Consortium Student Forum Closing Ceremony and Reception
2017/3/17
From February 18 to 25, the University of British Columbia hosted the 8th Japan-Canada Student Forum of Japan-Canada Academic Consortium (JACAC) at the University of British Columbia. The purpose of the forum is to provide students from 21 member universities the opportunity to interact with their peers from a different culture through group activities in order to encourage a flow of ideas. Under this year’s theme of “Immigration Policy and National Borders: Integration and Exclusion”, 28 select students formed 7 combined teams of Japanese and Canadian students, consolidated their ideas and competed against each other for final presentations.
The closing ceremony and reception for the forum was held at the residence of Consul General Okai on February 24, where the finalist team was announced. The participants included Dr. Aya Fujiwara, Director of the Takamado Japan Centre, representing the organizing committee, Dr. Pamela Ratner, Vice-Provost and Associate Vice President of Enrolment and Academic Facilities, the panel of judging professors as well as cooperating staff from UBC Go Global.
The forum, which is held alternately in Japan and Canada, has its operating costs provided by the Prince Takamado Japan Canada Memorial Fund, the Japan Foundation, Mitsubishi UFJ Foundation, the Japan Student Services Organization and the JACAC Japanese Consortium. As of today, over 200 students have completed the program.
