The 29th Annual B.C. Japanese Speech Contest was held at the University of British Columbia’s Asian Centre on Saturday, March 4 and was hosted by the B.C. Japanese Speech Contest Organizing Committee in collaboration with the Consulate General of Japan in Vancouver.

This year, 46 contestants from different parts of B.C. were selected to compete at the contest finals. An audience of about 150, including families, friends, teachers and learners of the Japanese language, came to cheer on the contestants.

The teachers and judges commented that the calibre of the speeches was exceptionally high this year and that they were proud of the success of the students. All contestants received participation prizes; winners received special prizes from sponsors and organizers for their achievements.

The first place winners in the university/public division will go on to compete in the nationals on March 18 which will take place at the University of British Columbia.
