Consul General Okai Attends Remembrance Day Ceremony at Japanese Canadian War Memorial in Stanley Park

2016/11/23
On November 11th Remembrance Day, a ceremony was held at the Japanese Canadian War Memorial in Stanley Park.  In the days when Japanese Canadians were not recognized as equal citizens in Canada, they pledged their loyalty to Canada and fought in the wars, overcoming various obstacles. Consul General Okai placed a wreath at the War Memorial to pay tribute to Japanese Canadians who fought in the wars.  At the reception after the ceremony, a new plaque to be placed on the site was unveiled to respect and remember the contributions made by WWI veterans who fought to gain the right to vote for the first time in BC in 1931 as Asian descent Canadians.
