Walk in Canada, Talk on Japan
2016/11/11
A Japanese government initiative billed as “Walk in US, Talk on Japan” made its first Canadian stop on October 27th and 28th under the title “Walk in Canada, Talk on Japan” when a group of young delegates from Japan led by former ambassador to the U.S., Ichiro Fujisaki, spoke to and interacted with Canadian audiences in Vancouver.
Their first presentation—at UBC—began with students and faculty being challenged in a pop-quiz on comparative facts about Japan and Canada from former ambassador Fujisaki followed by three presentations by the delegates and then concluding with an interactive discussion.
That afternoon, a second similar session geared towards the business community took place at the Coast Coal Harbour Hotel in downtown.
The program, which aims to increase the understanding of Japan by having experts from various fields share their stories about today’s Japan, originated in the Cabinet Office in 2014. Since then, a total of 14 groups with 49 delegates and 6 different leaders have visited 27 states and 29 cities in the U.S. This delegation made presentations in Portland and Seattle prior to coming to Vancouver.
