Consul General Okai attends "Greet the GarBarge" Marine Debris Recycling Event
2016/11/4
On October 1st, Consul General Okai attended “Greet the GarBarge”, the recycling event of marine debris from Vancouver Island held in Delta, which included Tsunami debris deriving from the Great East Japan Earthquake. This event was held upon completion of the use of Japan’s grant of 1 million Canadian dollars donated for the purpose of cleanup of debris in 2013. The Vancouver Island Marine Debris Working Group members explained their activities and expressed their gratitude to the good will of the Japanese people and government, presenting a property marker that drifted here from Kesennuma City with a commemorative plaque. The 40 tons of collected marine debris was sorted and recycled by the Working Group members and volunteers in two days.
