Consul General Okai paid tribute at the graves of Japanese-Canadians in Duncan and Chemainus

2016/10/14
On September 23rd, Consul General Okai paid tribute at the graves of Japanese-Canadians in Duncan and at the cenotaph for Japanese-Canadians in the public cemetery in Chemainus.  During World War II, more than 400 Japanese-Canadians were interned from the Cowichan Valley District.  Although once vandalized, the graves are now preserved through efforts of the communities with their strong commitment to not forget the history, and through their respect for the many contributions of the Japanese-Canadian residents of this area.
