Film Screening of Kainan 1890 and Reception - A Joint Event by the Consulate General of Japan and the Consulate General of the Republic of Turkey

On September 18th, the Consulate General of Japan and the Consulate General of the Republic of Turkey co-hosted the showing of the award winning film – Kainan 1890 and a reception commemorating the 126th anniversary of the Ertuğrul Disaster in 1890 and the 31st anniversary of the evacuation of the Japanese nationals from Tehran in 1985.
The film and reception were held at the Nikkei National Museum and Cultural Centre and had an attendance of 250 audiences. Many were from local Japanese and Turkish communities. From the municipal government, the Mayor of Burnaby Mr. Derek Corrigan and Burnaby City Councillor, Mr. Sav Dhaliwal, showed their support by joining the event. In his remarks, Mayor Corrigan congratulated the Consuls General on the cooperation in producing this cultural event which not only educates but also deepens the longstanding friendship between Japan and Turkey.
A reception was held after the film. Guests thoroughly enjoyed the Japanese and Turkish delicacies prepared by both Consulates General.
