The 27th Annual B.C. Japanese Speech Contest was held at the Asian Centre at the University of British Columbia on Saturday, March 7th by the B.C. Japanese Speech Contest Organizing Committee with the support of Consulate General of Japan in Vancouver.
This year 35 contestants were selected to compete at the contest in B.C. Their supporters, including families, friends, teachers, fellow classmates, and the general public interested in Japan and the Japanese language, all together of about a hundred, joined this once in a year event.
Teachers and judges were very proud of all contestants for their bravery and effort in presenting their speeches in public and in a foreign language. All contestants received participation prizes; winners received special prizes from sponsors and organizers for their outstanding achievements. Consul General Okada presented a special award - Consul General's Trophy to the top winner of the speech contest, Ryan Brynelson (1st place winner of the university/public open). List of winners(91KB)
First place winning students in the university/public division will go on to compete in the nationals on March 28 in Alberta.
It is hoped that through these meaningful contests, students and learners will continue to pursue their studies of Japan and the Japanese language and become a bridge between Japan and Canada.
