On February 19 and 20, Tanbayaki ceramic artist Takeshi Shimizu visited Metro Vancouver and gave three presentations on the art and culture of Japan through the world of Tanba ceramics.  He spoke about pottery and the Japanese spirit, Tanba pottery—one of six ancient kilns in Japan—and the connection between Bernard Leach and Tanba.  At each event, Mr. Mizuguchi, Executive Director of The Hyogo Business and Cultural Center spoke about the renewal of the historic castle town of Sasayama as an artisan village in Tanba area.  Mr. Shimizu’s presentations were held at Langara College, Kwantlen Polytechnic University where he also gave a demonstration, and the David Lam Centre at Simon Fraser University. After each lecture, there were lively exchanges between the audience and Mr. Shimizu.
