9th Annual Nikkei Matsuri - 'Mini Matsuri'

  Over the weekend of September 4 and 5, the 9th Annual Nikkei Matsuri was held at Burnaby’s Nikkei National Museum & Cultural Centre. Reflecting ongoing concerns about the COVID-19 pandemic, the size of this year’s event itself was downscaled and took place as a ‘Mini Matsuri.’ At the opening ceremony held on Saturday, Consul General Hatori and Burnaby City Mayor Mike Hurley were invited as guests and shared some remarks. Despite the compact scale of the festival, it was a highly spirited two days, complete with Bon-Odori, Taiko drumming, various musical and dance performances, martial arts demonstrations, and more.
