Beware of dubious information on scholarships

According to reports from multiple Japanese embassies in Africa, there have been e-mails and internet posts seeking applications for scholarships from the Japanese Government to study in Japan. There have also been cases where people were requested to transfer money, under the pretext of a scholarship deposit, when they contacted the organizations seeking these applications.

The recruitment and screening of Japanese Government-sponsored foreign students is done by the Japanese Government through Japanese embassies (and some Japanese consulates), or Japanese universities. Deposits are never required when applying for a scholarship offered by the Government of Japan.

Please beware of this dubious information on scholarships and be sure to obtain information about Japanese Government-sponsored scholarships from Japanese diplomatic offices such as embassies and consulates.
