The 2011 Visit of Japanese Training Squadron

 

Two ships of the Japan Training Squadron, manned by a total complement of approximately 400, are scheduled to visit Port Metro Vancouver from Wednesday June 15 to Saturday June 18. As a part of an around the world training cruise of Japan Maritime Self-Defense Forces (JMSDF), the ships, ‘ASAGIRI’ and ‘MINEYUKI’ are expected to arrive at Port Metro Vancouver early morning on June 15 and will anchor at the Burrard Dry Dock Pier (map)(2.05MB) in North Vancouver.

 

1. CREW

(1)The Training Squadron Commander: Rear Admiral Umio Otsuka

(2)Complement: Approximately 400 in total, including 60 officer-candidates

 

2. ARRIVAL: June 15 (Wed)  9 a.m.

Please join the Consulate General of Japan staff members to welcome the Squadron at the Burrard Dry Dock Pier.  Greeters are provided with small Japanese flags to welcome the crew who visit Metro Vancouver from the other side of the Pacific.  No registration required. The flags are on first come first served basis, starting 8 am.

 

3. PUBLIC TOUR

Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force will open their training ships “MINEYUKI’ to the public for tour as follows:

(1)June 16 (Thu)  1:30 to 3:30 p.m.

(2)June 17 (Fri)    9:30 to 11:30 a.m.

No registration required.  Use of public transportation is highly recommended due to limited parking. 

 

4. DEPARTURE:  June 18 (Sat)  9 a.m.

Please come to the Burrard Dry Dock Pier to see off the squadron on June 18.  The ships are scheduled to leave at 9 a.m. and the Consulate staff will provide Japanese flags starting from 8 a.m.   No registration required.
