Yukio Okamoto Addresses Vancouver Audience

In a special event co-hosted by the Consulate General of Japan and
the Canada-Japan Society of BC, Mr. Yukio Okamoto, a former Japanese
diplomat and special advisor to two prime ministers, gave a one-hour
presentation on the current political situation in Japan and the relationship
between China, the U.S. and Japan.
An audience of about 110 gathered at the Coast Plaza Hotel in Vancouver
to hear him speak on "The Challenges Prime Minister Fukuda Faces"
and "From Manchuria to Iwo Jima to Nagasaki: What the Competing
War Narratives of World War II can say about the Sino-American-Japanese
Relationship."
Following his talk, there was a 25 minute question and answer session
in which he frankly responded to questions about Japan's history and
possible future directions of current affairs in Japan.
