Memorial Ceremonies commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Rogers Pass Avalanche

On March 4, 1910 a massive second wave avalanche claimed the lives of 58 railroad workers who were clearing snow from the CPR track near the summit of Rogers Pass, which is about 700 km northeast of Vancouver.  The victims of the snow slide disaster included 32 Japanese men.

A memorial ceremony for the 34 victims including 32 Japanese was held at Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver on August 12, 2010, followed by a ceremony at the Rogers Pass site on August 15, where the commemorative plaque, engraved with the names of 58 victims, was unveiled.  Also at Revelstoke, a lantern floating ceremony took place along Columbia River.
