Ceremony to Confer the Order of the Rising Sun, Silver Rays on Ms. Mary Kitagawa (2026/5/22)

On May 22, 2026, a ceremony was held to confer the Order of the Rising Sun, Silver Rays on Ms. Mary Kitagawa, former Member of the Human Rights Committee of the Greater Vancouver Japanese Canadian Citizens’ Association. This honour was awarded as part of the 2025 Autumn Conferment of Decorations on Foreign Nationals and conferred in recognition of her contribution to the improvement of the social status of Japanese Canadians and the promotion of understanding of Japan.
At the ceremony, Consul General Takahashi delivered congratulatory remarks and expressed his gratitude to Ms. Kitagawa’s many years of dedication toward restoring the honour of Japanese Canadians, as well as for contributions toward building a more just and inclusive Canadian society while strengthening the Japan–Canada friendship. Consul General Takahashi conferred on the Patent of the Decoration and the insignia upon Ms. Kitagawa.
