JET Programme - Overview
The Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme aims to enhance internationalization in Japan by promoting mutual understanding between Japan and other nations. The Programme enhances foreign language education and promotes international exchange at the local level through fostering ties between Japanese youth and foreign, young professionals. Once a year, the Japanese government places university graduates from almost 38 countries in the public school system as Assistant Language Teachers (ALTs) or in local government offices as Coordinators for International Relations (CIRs). In 2009, 43 participants (as of August 1, 2009) departed from Vancouver out of 177 from across Canada. Read our 2009 JET Programme Press Release.
For a complete programme description and eligibility criteria visit the Embassy of Japan in Canada's JET Programme Canadian Homepage. Look at our other JET Programme resources and consider attending one of our information sessions.
Application for the 2010 JET Programme is currently closed. A sample application form is available for your review. Application forms for 2011 will be available in late September 2010. |
